Hotel - old fashioned style

My husband spent his time saying he felt like he'd give through a time warp. The staff were very attentive, but he was right, it did feel very dated. Hard to explain why. The decor, the attitude, the entertainment in the evening. It felt like a hotel cruise-ship. Breakfast is basically the same every day but has a wide choice from cooked English breakfast, fresh fruits, cold meats and cheeses and cereals. Everything was fresh and a high standard. I had a massage which was good. Very easy to organise and reasonably priced. There are 2 pool areas. One for under 16s by the bar, the other adult only in the spa area with no drink service. The spa pool gets the sun in the morning. Would have been perfect there if we could have had a beer. Ate at the hotel once - big mistake and the reason I've not given the hotel 5*. Ate at La Parrilla , suposidly Spanish restaurant based in the hotel. This was by far the most expensive meal we had for the worst food. I left my starter - an unripe tomato filled with squirty cheese and scattered with tiny bits of ham. No one asked why I hadn't touched it. Then unflavoured rice with 4 over cooked prawns. This cost me +€20 for this course alone - insulating. The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the beach front but all down hill so clearly uphill on the way back. There are loads of small restaurants just off site so would highly recommend going elsewhere for food. So, in summary - nice hotel if a bit eccentric. Pools nice. Breakfast good. Staff welcoming. Just absolutely dire restaurant with the worst food I can remember eating in a long time.
