Daughter's wedding wind down

We normally opt for holidays with a mixture of travel and activities in cooler climates, but on this occasion both my wife and I, arrived separately at the same conclusion. We'd need to collapse and chill after the never ending preparation and build-up, leading to and including our daughters wedding, Hotel in the sun it was! Tenerife selected as the destination, hundreds of hotels to choose from, which to pick? No.1 on TripAdviser seemed a safe option. From the moment we arrived it was clear that we were set for a quality experience. Two Porters collected our luggage from the bus and a drink was provided while we checked-in. The room was as booked, with a balcony and sea view over the slopes of lower Puerto de la Cruz. Décor traditional rather than contemporary which suited us, the two large single beds side by side were firm and comfortable and of course everything perfectly clean. The days passed all too quickly, lazing by the main pool. Although, the reading matter hastily packed at the last minute, was somewhat ironic given our recent event and choice of holiday destination. My wife’s choice for herself being ‘Revenge wears Prada’ with a wedding theme and mine ‘Surviving the Volcano’! I never did get to scale Teide and Loro Parc (it’s for kids anyway) will have to wait until next time. We’d booked on a half board basis, lunched most days at the pool and spent every evening in either the Spanish or Thai restaurants, food excellent in both cases. Breakfast largely a self service buffet, with every conceivable taste catered for. It took me a while to grasp the breakfast protocol and I probably annoyed the head waiter several times, wandering about searching for hot water, which the staff were all too happy to deliver. And the staff, always a smile, always ready and able to help, courteous and efficient. On one of rare excursions outside of the Botanico grounds, we suddenly realised that the adjoining plot held the Spa building and pools. My only regret that our ‘discovery’ came towards the end of our stay, so only one visit to the amazing Spa facility was made. All in all, we had a thoroughly relaxing time, without doubt the best Hotel we’ve stayed in anywhere and will look to return when funds allow.
