Top class but not pretentious

We arrived almost two hours late and twenty minutes before the restaurants closed. Our welcome at reception could not be faulted with a cool refreshing drink and friendly informative staff who assured us we could eat in either place. After a very comprehensive introduction to our room, we got to the restaurant at 10.55 pm - five minutes before they closed. Again, we were warmly welcomed and had a lovely meal including pasta which one of our party said was some of the best she had ever eaten. The bedrooms are very spacious with big comfortable beds. There is just enough shelf and wardrobe space, but perhaps another shelf in the wardrobe would help. There has been a slight compromise on space in the bathroom to accommodate a separate shower and bath, but the quality of the shower more than compensates. Breakfast is something else! There are so many different items, so much of it and all of superb quality. Being able to eat alongside the pool adds a special touch to the experience. The pool area has plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas and leading off this area is a beautiful garden which is a very relaxing oasis. The spa has another gorgeous outside pool and a huge number of spa facilities, all of which are immaculately kept. Inside, the building is full of paintings and artefacts and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Two small criticisms. First, the Oriental restaurant was not as good as the Italian and didn't feel very oriental. Second, there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms and at peak times such as 8.00 am, room service didn't cope very well, even when the hotel was not full. Modern machines (e.g. Tassimo) might help. Overall, a great place to enjoy a holiday with the varied life of Puerto de la Cruz only a short taxi ride away.
