Hotel Botánico (2941)

A beautiful hotel

Let's start with the good things of which there were many. First the hotel is probably one of the most attractive I have ever stayed in. Situated in beautiful tropical gardens they are a joy to wander around in the evening or day and the pools are also very attractively situated. Public rooms are all similarly attractive. Service was fine as they are not understaffed, friendliness obviously varied but was always attentive. Room, well I asked for a quiet one with a lovely view and got one with a view of the main road and the spa, not, I have to confess too bad but not as good as one might have hoped booking 6 months in advance. The room was pleasant but a little on the small side. Air-conditioning when working was brilliant but it did have a few hiccups each night when it started to make very strange noises! I liked the provision of two bottles of water each day and the replenished fruit bowl. Bathroom was ok but the shower was not the best and really should be modernised. Breakfasts were excellent, The hotel contains four restaurants, three of which were functioning during our visit and which I will review separately. Location of hotel is fine if you do not want constant access to the town and beach. There are, however, excellent pools for swimming and taxis are easily available and very reasonably priced. Being on the outskirts of town it is comparatively easy to get to the main roads if you want to tour around and if you want to eat out there are also several decent (and reasonably priced restaurants) just across the road. Entertainment was varied, once there was a half hour of flamenco and once an extremely good exhibition of local dance, song and music. One evening there was a rather good performance of violin and song but otherwise it has to be said that evening entertainment was largely of the 'man with a synthesizer and a woman trying to be sexy' variety common to third rate hotels around the world. I expected better. The hotel did provide a few small events such as wine tasting, how to make a cocktail etc. of varying interest but appreciated nonetheless, along with a welcome drink once a week, all good for those who wish to spend their holiday close to the hotel, something you could actually quite happily do. All in all I can recommend this hotel for anyone who doesn't want the typical beach holiday and appreciates a more relaxed place to stay.
