Hotel Botánico (2941)

Fantastic place!

This is my first review on TripAdvisor for the very sole reason that I think the Botanico deserves it. We travelled as a family of four. Our kids are 5 and 8. Firstly the hotel itself. Definitely a classic style. Doesn't feel tired at all, it's that the decor is classic. No it's not some minimalistic chic nor some wacky themed place but it works. The hotel is spotless throughout and the rooms were well equipped and spacious. We travelled at half term and the hotel did not feel busy. The staff made this place. Whether it was the porter on the door, the cleaning staff, or restaurant team, we were constantly made to feel welcome by everyone and the kids always got special attention. I judge a hotel not just by its standards but by how it reacts when those standards drop or things go wrong as they often will do when holidaying. The detail is irrelevant as that would be unfair to raise here, What continued to impress me was how they reacted if I wasn't happy for whatever reason. First class all the way and that's all I could ask for. The spa is as good as any you'll find in the UK. Uncrowded and classic. The restaurants had a great ambience and the food was of good quality. Drinks are pricey but to be expected. There are plenty of local places to go if you feel like sampling something a bit different and again, everything was good quality, well priced and people super friendly. There were a fair amount of older couples here but also a few families. Is it kid friendly? Yes and no. The kids club is excellent and gave us parents some time at the spa which is for over 16s only. The best part of the club is the visits they Lora park. Because it's the same owner, the kids get privileged access on 3 days of the week if they visit with the club. Our two absolutely loved it. They have movie nights and mini discos as well. The evening entertainment is a bit for the saga brigade. This is certainly not a lively place but if you want somewhere to unwind and avoid the Tenerife stag parties etc this is the place. The pools are a bit confused. In the adult spa we have a shallow warm pool and in the general area we have a big deep pool which my daughter (who is tall for her age) could only stand up in 10% of it. Now she can swim but even so it's hard going and means you want to keep an eye on them. It went to 3m deep! My son couldn't touch the bottom at all. His only other option was an 45cm baby pool. The pools were heated but slighter colder. If you swapped the pools it would be perfect. The only downside was the dreaded sunbed reserving that went on by the main pool. By breakfast every bed was reserved. I was hopeful that this would not happen as the hotel policy stated that this is not allowed. Unfortunately this was not enforced whilst we were here. Plenty of beds in the spa area but when we came back from the spa and fetched the kids, there were no beds by the main pool. Some people would disappear for hours which was frustrating. So you will have to mimic everyone else if you want a bed. That's about the only fault which is pretty impressive. Would recommend this place without hesitation.
