Outdated and average in 80s time warp.
We stayed here for one week over New Year whilst visiting family who live in Puerto. We had a very friendly welcome by the front of house staff and the Duty Manager gave us a free evening in one of the hotel restaurants including all drinks as we were not going to partake in the New Year Gala Dinner. This was not requested by us so we were pleasantly surprised and thought that this was excellent customer service. More re restaurant later on. However the hotel generally is sad and tired and needs an update. It is certainly not on par with other 5* hotels in which we have stayed at home and abroad. It seems to be living in the 70s/80s but maybe that is what most of the clientele who stay here are partial to. Our rooms x2 were ok with very dated decor. The beds were of a poor standard, not very comfortable with one long, thin pillow per person and a smaller square one. There was a pillow menu by the bed which did not inspire and was “subject to availability”. The rooms were cleaned well as was the bathroom but yet again the bathroom was definitely not 5* standard. The shower was poor and the bathroom needed a total refurbishment. Fresh fruit was complementary in the room with 2 small bottles of mineral water provided daily. Also daily turndown service with the usual chocolate on the pillow. A safe and minibar are also a feature of the rooms. The hotel grounds are very pleasant and we did use the indoor & outdoor pools, spa & gym. It is good that children under 16 are not allowed into the spa garden & area. However if you wish to have a drink or food then it is not possible in this area and you have to trail all the way through the hotel to partake in the area reserved for families and children. The breakfasts are good, served buffet style with a huge choice. Again the staff are all helpful and friendly and kept us supplied with numerous pots of freshly brewed coffee. We ate our complementary dinner in La Parilla within the hotel. The staff were excellent. That was where it ended. The food was mediocre and would not recommend. It was style over substance. Nice enough surroundings and friendly service but that’s all. The large bar downstairs just off the foyer was really the only other indoor seating area to enjoy a drink and to relax in the evening. The only downside was that there is the obligatory entertainment provided which most nights was dreadful. Again very 70s/80s and if you just wished to sit quietly enjoying a drink there was no where else to go.
