On the whole, very good

We stayed at this hotel for a week in January 2018. We’ve previously read the reviews and went there with an open mind. The staff are on the whole excellent and very attentive The Spa is very nice. The jacuzzi in the cave is great. I enjoyed the warm indoor pool. The gardens are beautiful and I enjoyed the guided tour with a Botanist. The pool area was sheltered and gave a nice sun trap. There were plenty of beds in January. We enjoyed the early evening activities of demonstrations of gin, sangria and cocktail making, and tasting sessions of wine, fortified wines and cheese. These became social occasions. Carlos the barman made these events very informative and interesting. As other have mentioned the buffet breakfast has an excellent choice of foods. We ate in the Oriental Thai restaurant and whilst the staff were very attentive, the food was fine, but overpriced - by far the most expensive meal we had all week! As other reviewers have said, there are plenty of very good restaurants a short walk from the hotel (which I will endeavour to write reviews for). The room was comfortable. There was a safe (included in the price) and two small complementary bottles of water were left in the room each day. A plate of fruit was in the room on arrival. If I was being very picky, the shower (which is above the bath) was hard to adjust - a very tiny movement was needed to get the temperature right. A kettle in the room would have been nice. Overall, an enjoyable stay.
