Incredible, mostly ... apart from the price and some exhibits

The price is extortionate and i was tempted to say i was a local but I'm guessing they need to recoup the funding considering it's brand new. We visited on a cloudy day. Coming from Puerto Rico it's a bit of a drive and all along it was well sign posted until you actually get into Las Palmas - no signs whatsoever, which was not helpful. The assistant who checked our tickets and let us in through the gates forgot to point out we needed the lift (with our pram) to enter the exhibit so we saw the floor of tiny fish just before the elevator and then realised we had to go back. You basically start at the top and work your way in a downward spiral throughout the building... The top section with re-formed stone walls and exhibits within was very tastefully done although some areas were a bit too cold (aircon) and it echos, - especially with a large group of children around this can feel super busy fast... There is an eel pretty much at the start of the exhibit in a tiny little aquarium (for its size) and that was not a good sight - but then in the next exhibit you see a tree with chameleons roaming around freely with a nice lady assistant pointing them out. They have conservation videos of the good work they do which is a 'feel good' although getting to the toilets on this level with a baby that needed changing was far from good as there were no baby changing facilities at this level so i had to use the floor. . . Luckily there was nobody else that needed the toilet! The hanging bridge with a pram was fun although you have to carry the pram onto it. Moving through the exhibits with the exotic but toxic little frogs who in my opinion were in too small a habitat for comfort, it was all very nicely designed overall with its walkways and the way it leads you through to the next 'thing'. The information screens are very frustrating though as you're never looking at the info page you actually want to see about the animal you want to see it of.. which is a complete jumble and needs addressing. Moving further down we came across a lovely bar/ cafe where we had a freshly pressed juice for 4.50 Euros and a crepe for over 3 Euros and although expensive, it was both fresh and quality. The staff seemed to disappear for about 5 minutes prior though which seemed to be a quibble about duties so it took a while before tasks were allocated, strangely. The little tunnels for children to clamber through with fish all around were amazing here. The wall of aquarium was simply stunning to watch and we could have sat there for hours - even our baby was immersed in the experience. There was a cleaner continuously rubbing the glass with a cloth to ensure there were no marks anywhere. It was incredible to see as were most of the fish exhibits in the deeper levels with the low lighting. Very tastefully done - and no doubt less intrusive for the fish. The crabs in the little walkway need more space though in my view as does the eel and the frogs All in all a very worthwhile experience and good day out - especially great on a cloudy day. Our 9 month old baby loved most of it - but it is not great for your wallet.
