Poema del Mar (1334)

What a day out!!

An overcast day on our annual holiday in Gran Canaria left us at odds knowing what to do. We need not have worried. Our hire car was directed to Las Palmas and after a 45 minute journey from the south of the island we pulled into one of the two car parks equidistant from the Poema del Mar aquarium. The entrance fee of €25 was , considering the upkeep, very reasonable. The layout of the route around the aquarium was very well laid out and apart from tropical and marine fish there was also lizards and chameleons. After about an hour or so we came to a small cafeteria where we had a lovely cake and coffee at under €4 each. That set us up for the final part of the route, and the climax of which is an enormous tank which was mesmerising in the extreme. After picking our jaws off the floor we sat for nearly half an hour just watching everything from the smallest cobalt blue fish to the 2+metre sharks. An amazing experience and if I could give it ten stars I would.
