Poema del Mar (1334)

Poema del Mar Aquarium - difficult to reach, over-priced, offers little value to the money

We approached Poema del Mar from the direction of Castello de la Luz (í.e. from the north). The building of Poema del Mar was only a couple of hundred meters away, so we tried to walk directly towards it. The way was blocked by construction works and a big road. We turned towards the downtown and tried to find an access to the aquarium there. Between us and the aquarium there was an endless-looking high fence of sharpened iron bars and a 4 to 6 lane highway. The pedestrian streed that seemed to lead closer to the aquarium ended into a dead-end between the lanes of the highway, so we walked back. After a long long long walk at the side of the noisy and exhaust gas smelling highway we found a way over the highway and the fence, and then walking a long way back wd got in the aquarium. The price was 25 € per person, which was much too much for the dull experience offered. There were some interesting aquariums, but for the most the fishes were ordinary aquarium fish that can be seen in any pet shop. The walls in the aquarium were concrete that was for some reason shaped to give the image of a cave. Plastic pterosaurs were hanging from the ceiling. The decoration might have attracted my children when they were 4 to 6 years old, but certainly not an adult. Compared to the previous aquarium visit (Singapore), which was superb, this was close to zero.

Poema del Mar

Dear Ruma_mies, Let us tell you that we are quite surprised by your comment, as visitors end the tour with a totally opposite perception. On the other hand, the works or impediments that are in the city are not in our hands, so we cannot have control over it. Best regards
