Poema del Mar (1334)

2 amazing showpieces - overall underwhelming

The first portion very plastic and fake (ironic given the importance they place on plastic use in the ocean) - opens up into a magnificent cylindrical aquascape next to their little cafe - which served us raw hot-dogs that made us ill for quite a while after only 2 bites. We did get refunded which was good. Their massive display with the biggest sheet of curved acrylic glass was absolutely spectacular. Many different tanks with many different species and good info - however - they have fallen far short of their responsibilities as an opportunity to educate and inform with regards to the life of corals. These are animals too, and are featured in most of their displays, smaller tanks and centrepieces. There is zero information on these animals and their place in the ecosystem that the aquarium is exploiting. Not to mention the obvious issues with disease some of these corals are suffering in the tanks here (clearly untreated and will no doubt end up dead in the coming weeks) No merchandise or educational tools relating to corals is a massive mis-step and for an aquarium gift shop to be selling merchandise with gorillas, tigers, lions and many other animals that aren't anything to do with aquatic life is jarring to us. This important part of the aquatic ecosystem needs better representation in a place like this where everyone is enjoying viewing their presence on display.
