Poema del Mar (1334)

Don't book tickets on-line!

We recently had a holiday in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria which itself is an interesting and friendly city. We visited the Poema del Mar - a fantastic aquarium situated very close to the cruise boat dock. It is five minutes from Santa Catalina bus station for those who are coming from other parts of the island. The layout of the aquarium is extremely good and was both beautiful and informative. There were different sections trying to reflect different marine environments. The jelly-fish display is mesmerising. The highlight of the tour is a massive (maybe four or six times the size of a cinema screen) plexiglass wall displaying the creatures in the large tank. So it deserves five stars. So why the title? I looked at the web-site and it gave the impression that a timed pre-booked ticket was the thing to do. (Maybe a hangover from covid times?) I booked two tickets online - 25 euros each. Nothing happened, no email confirmation, nothing. So I assumed it hadn't gone through. We walked round from our hotel and paid at the front desk. Had a great time, forgot about the online thing. Then three days later the tickets appeared in my inbox - timed and dated for three days previously. I asked our hotel reception to phone; he was told I had to email. I did so and after two weeks no response. I'm writing off the fifty euros. Life is too short. And anyway with any luck it will go towards marine conservation or education projects for local kids. Hopefully the fifty euros doesn't go towards the web-site guys' Christmas party.
