Poema del Mar (1334)

Excellent modern aquarium

Drove about 1 hour from Playa del Ingles/Maspolomas area with my husband and son on Sunday 26th Feb to this aquarium, paid on arrival €25 each for entry, don't think there's any need to book in advance. Used Google to navigate here as didn't take our Sat nav on holiday, had researched the nearest car park which was directly behind the building, we were in the city centre several hours & it was very cheap when we came to pay for parking at the end. It's also near the cruise ship dock so that was interesting to see, a shopping centre & Santa Catalina park where there was a joyful & colourful family & dogs carnival going on that day as it was carnival month in Las Palmas which we visited after. The aquarium is set in 3 zones & is very modern & well designed, there's more to it than fish eg giant tortoises, crocodiles, pig nosed turtles, jellyfish, sea horses & lots more amazing creatures. The big tube of fish is amazing but the star of the show for us was the massive curved acrylic tank with the sharks & stingrays & masses of fish, it was so clear & there were plenty of seats so you could study it for as long as you wanted, we felt really calm & in awe of nature afterwards. We spent over 2 hours here & really enjoyed it, they had the names of all the animals in Spanish, German & English on touch screens. It was the best aquarium we've been to & the creatures all looked happy & healthy though I've taken a star off because some of the animals in the smaller tanks such as the pig nosed turtles could have done with a much bigger tank, it's a difficult question whether any of the creatures should be in captivity at all but we learned a lot & enjoyed the experience & would recommend it for anyone.
