a wonderful resort hotel . . .
We very much enjoyed our stay at Botanico: Pro's: - service is excellent -- the staff is very warm, attentive, and not just going through the motions. Were always ready and happy to help out. Very rare that we had to wait at front desk or on a phone call. - the hotel felt relaxed and calm throughout our stay - we had a jr suite sea view which was spacious and well equipped. housekeeping was terrific. bed comfy and nice lounge area. It is on the cusp of being dated but in excellent shape. - breakfast by the pool and overlooking the gardens was a highlight - two meals, Italian and Spanish restaurants, were very good and excellent respectively. - the size and extensiveness of the spa was a pleasant surprise - the overall operation reflects a that management really cares about the guests Con's - the bar and music is a bit staid but pleasant - dinner reservations best made a day or two in advance but there was always availability on same day, just not our first choice. Notes: - Very nice casual Italian restaurant across the street, Al Contrario, with terrace and inside seating -- and also a good very very casual pizza spot nearby (forget the name). Also nice eating places down by the harbor. Front desk was helpful with recommendations. - If inclined it's only a ten minute walk to the harbor area -- hotel does have a shuttle - the charming small town up the mountain La Orotava is well worth a visit (or two). We later stayed at the Ritz Carlton Abama on the south part of the island. We preferred Botanico. The Ritz is more modern with newer rooms but service not as sharp or warm. While most at Ritz were eager to help,others at times very cool and uncaring. We have a longer list of cons for The Ritz.
